Celebrating Sisterhood and Culinary Heritage: Join Us for the Sisterhood Supper in Tulsa

Updated: Aug 5

Tulsa, OK – July 25, 2024 – As the sun sets on Sunday, August 11, 2024, the Archive Creative Space at 328 East First Street in Tulsa will come alive with the spirit of sisterhood, celebration, and culinary excellence. The highly anticipated Sisterhood Supper, featuring the talented Chef Tiffany, will be filled with warmth, community, and purpose. Providing special remarks, Oklahoma City Councilmember Nikki Nice said she is happy to participate and looks forward to engaging with women and supporting WANDA. Additional special guests include senior leadership from Oklahoma State University.

A Legacy of Empowerment and Celebration

Since its inception in 2017, WANDA has been hosting Sisterhood Suppers, bringing together over 600 women to celebrate our unique foodways, strengthen our bonds, and support the next generation of food sheroes nationwide. Each event has been a testament to the resilience, creativity, and unity that define our community.

This year’s supper is particularly special as it aligns with rodeo weekend, a time of cultural significance and celebration in Oklahoma. By choosing this weekend, we aim to highlight the intersection of our rich Black cowboy heritage and the legacy of women leading from farm to health through the power of food.

Supporting the WANDA Scholars Program

The proceeds from the Sisterhood Supper will go towards the WANDA Scholars Program, which began with an endowment at Oklahoma State University. This program supports college women pursuing agriculture, nutrition, and dietetics degrees. Founded by Tambra Stevenson, a proud alumna of the nutrition program at Oklahoma State University, WANDA has grown to have a global impact, recently expanding its support to scholars in Nigeria.

"We are thrilled to host the Sisterhood Supper in Tulsa during rodeo weekend. This event is not just a fundraiser but a celebration of our community's strength and unity,” Tambra Stevenson, founder and CEO of WANDA, “By supporting the WANDA Scholars Programs, we are investing in the future of Black and Brown women in agriculture, nutrition, and dietetics. Together, we can cultivate a more equitable and empowered future." Sisterhood Supper is about coming to the table and shaking tables for change to improve our communities through the power of women.

“The establishment of the OSU WANDA Endowed Scholarship creates a unique and transformational opportunity to support women pursuing degrees, and ultimately professional careers, in nutrition and agriculture. As an alumna, Tambra Stevenson's generosity in funding this scholarship extends the meaningful impact she demonstrated as an undergraduate at OSU. She continues applying her OSU degree to develop innovative and inspiring experiences and opportunities to educate and empower women across the globe," says Dr. Jason F. Kirksey, Vice President of the Division of Access and Community Impact at Oklahoma State University. "The impact of WANDA is helping shape a new generation of young women at OSU and in Africa. The unique historical and traditional knowledge and experience gained in nutrition and agriculture are being cultivated for our students through this scholarship, and more broadly, this unique and empowering idea of WANDA is indeed very special. We are so incredibly proud of Tambra and the work she continues engaging in to represent OSU and, more significantly, to make a better and healthier world for all.”

"Being the featured chef at WANDA's Sisterhood Supper hosted in Tulsa, OK, is profoundly

important because it allows us to celebrate our rich culinary heritage, build strong community bonds, and create a supportive space where Black and Brown women can share their stories and inspire one another,” Chef Tiffany Tisdale-Braxton, “In a city with such a complex historical past, these gatherings are crucial for fostering unity, empowerment, and cultural pride as we move forward towards a more equitable future."

"As a WANDA Scholarship recipient, I am immensely grateful for this opportunity. Through the WANDA Scholarship, I was able to apply my teaching skills in a meaningful way. As a future physician assistant, I plan to use this experience to educate patients and clients about the profound impact of food on the mind, body, and soul. I encourage everyone to donate to the WANDA Fund, as it truly makes a difference,”Valeze' Law-Vaughn, a nutrition graduate from Oklahoma State University.
